Barbary Sheep

Native from Northern Africa, the barbary sheep is one of the special animals wanted for the hunters in Spain. It has been introduced in North America and southern Europe.

The barbary sheep’s weight is around 100kg (220lb) and it is 110 cm (43 inch) tall at the shoulder. The color of this animal is brown like the sand of the desert, and they become darker with the age. The males have some shaggy hair on the throat extending down to the chest.
In these areas the vegetation is mostly bushes, lichens and grazes.
Their horns have a triangular cross-section. The horns curve outward, backward, then inward, and can exceed 65 cm (25 in) in length.

Hunting Areas

Barbary sheep lives in the South of Spain where the climate is hot and arid. Our hunting ranges, in Murcia, are flat and easy to walk. But in Alicante, the barbary sheep lives in the mountains about 1500m above the sea level. It is a rocky terrain, with very nice views. We can spot them from far and do the stalk as close as we can. We normally try to shot between 200 and 300 meters (220 and 330 yards).

Our hunting areas are Private and managed for years to have the optimal population. We have around 35 000 Hectares (86 000 acres).

The nearest airport to the hunting area is Murcia.

Hunting Season

The hunting season starts on October 12th and ends on February 12th. There are some places where we can hunt them with a permit from the state because these animals make damage to the fields. So as the wild boars, we can hunt them out of season with this permit.

Season October- February

The best hunting period is from September to January. In December and January, they are in ruth, so the oldest males come out looking for females and this is the period to hunt the biggest males.

Lodge and meals

Spain always offers a very good gastronomy. In southern Spain, we can try all the typical tapas and typical food from this area.
